Ruling party MP urges implementation of Wonduruba peace accord

Thomas Wani Kundu, the member of South Sudan’s parliament representing Lainya County of Central Equatoria State, has called on the government to expedite implementation of the Wonduruba peace agreement.

Church leaders last December brokered a peace agreement between community leaders and an SPLA unit in Wonduruba, but many civilians who had fled the area still have not returned.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj Wednesday, Kundu said local residents fear to return back home because of indiscriminate killings and abuses perpetrated by the SPLA.

He pointed out that Wonduruba area is entirely deserted, saying that the area is now inhabited by government forces only. The ruling party MP added that the conflict-affected people are currently living in Lainya, Gangi, Yei and Juba areas.

Kundu, who is the former head of the parliamentary information committee, said that the humanitarian situation of displaced families is deteriorating due to a lack of food, medicines and basic services.

He called on international NGOs to intervene by giving them food, medicines, tents and other supplies.
