RSF commander says EU sanctions are baseless

The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) commander in West Darfur, Maj. Gen. Abdul Rahman Jumma Barak-Allah has denied the claims that he has been hindering political stability and transition in Sudan and said he is willing to appear before any international body.

Maj Gen Barak-Allah told Radio Tamazuj last week that the claims by the European Union Council lacked evidence.

“I have opposed the war from the first day and communicated with the late West Darfur Governor Khamis Abbakar, aiming to stop the tribal strife within the 15th Division of the Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) in Geneina,” he stated.

Gen. Barak-Allah expressed his willingness to appear before any international committee and called upon the European Union Council to investigate the events in Geneina. He also accused the Sudanese Army chief, Gen. Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, of obstructing the political stability and civilian transition.

On Monday, the European Union Council imposed sanctions on six individuals in Sudan, including Maj. Gen. Barak-Allah, the Air Force Commander, Maj. Gen. Al-Tahir Mohammed Al-Awad, and the Islamic Movement’s political secretary, Dr Ali Karti, for undermining Sudan’s stability and political transition. The sanctions include freezing their assets, prohibiting providing them with funds or economic resources, and a travel ban to the EU countries.

The US Treasury Department had also sanctioned the RSF Deputy Commander Gen. Abdul-Rahim Dagalo and Maj. Gen. Barak-Allah, citing human rights violations.
