Farmers in Roseires locality in Sudan’s Blue Nile State have expressed discontent about resettlement of hundreds of displaced people from the Ingessena Mountains into their fields.
Several farmers told Radio Tamazuj that they were surprised by the resettlement and said the move could affect this year’s harvest.
The farmers said they presented a complaint to the locality commissioner on the matter, but he was removed in the recent government reshuffle in the state.
They noted they cannot ask the displaced people to leave as they were forcibly dislodged from their areas of origin. Rights organizations have accused local authorities of forcibly displacing the Ingessena residents.
The government has yet to respond to the accusations.
