About seven shops at the Jou market in Wau town in South Sudan’s Western Bahr al Ghazal state were robbed on Wednesday night.
Sudanese traders reported that they lost their properties, saying they would leave their business if robberies continue in the town.
The traders expressed their discontent about what they termed as “systematic theft” at the market. They pointed out that four shops and a pharmacy along the main road were looted, besides the ransacking of two shops in one of neighbourhoods.
Wol Charles, head of the chamber of commerce in Wau town, called on the relevant authorities to deploy police personnel to protect the markets.
He pointed out that the monthly fees paid by traders should be used for security. He confirmed that a number of shops were robbed in the market.
