The Chamber of Commerce in South Sudan’s Wau town has reported shortages of all imported consumer goods at the market as goods are blocked due to road insecurity.
Speaking to the press in Wau town, Wol Charles, Chairperson of the Chamber of Commerce in Wau, said prices of essential commodities have risen drastically at the market in the area.
He pointed out that insecurity along the Juba-Yambio-Wau road has stopped movement of many commercial convoys. Wol pointed that nearly 70 trucks loaded with food items are stuck in Juba due to the insecurity, saying they may resort to transport all essential commodities by air.
The local official warned against worsening humanitarian situation in the area. He added that the consumer goods at the market will not be enough for the people of the state by next week.
