Peter Makuoth Malual, Minister of Information in South Sudan’s Southern Liech State has reported shortages of food and healthcare services due to poor road and insecurity between Leer and Bentiu towns since September.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Wednesday, Peter Makuoth said that insecurity along the Leer-Bentiu road has stopped movement of people and commercial trucks, saying local residents previously depend on goods coming from Bentiu town.
The official noted that Leer Hospital also halted its operation after aid workers had been evacuated from the area following clashes between government troops and oppositions fighters.
“The hospital in the area is not working, but the minister of health is working to provide some medicines to the people in the state,” said Makuoth.
“We used to receive assistance from humanitarian organizations, but they left after the clashes erupted in the area,” he added.
