The chairperson of the Revitalized Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Commission (RJMEC), Amb. Maj Gen. (rtd) Charles Tai Gituai, met with Ruben Madol Arol, the National Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, on Monday to review progress on the implementation of the 2018 revitalized peace agreement.
The meeting, held at the minister’s office, focused on judicial reforms and the ongoing constitutional processes.
Following the meeting, Amb. Gituai addressed the media, outlining the primary topics of discussion.
“We reviewed the efforts made over the past seven years in advancing judicial reforms in South Sudan. Our discussions included the work of the Judicial Reform Committee (JRC) and how it integrates with the broader framework of the revitalized peace agreement,” Gituai said. “We also delved into the constitutional making process and evaluated the various laws that have been enacted and their implementation status.”
For his part, Dr. Gabriel Isaac Awow, Undersecretary in the Ministry of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, emphasized the importance of the meeting for aligning efforts on the peace agreement’s implementation.
“The minister provided an update on transitional justice processes, as well as issues concerning elections and constitutional development,” he said. “The exchange was crucial for ensuring that the ministry’s roles and responsibilities are clearly understood and effectively executed.”
The discussions underscore a continued commitment to advancing the peace process and addressing key governance issues in South Sudan, with an emphasis on judicial and constitutional reforms as critical components of the nation’s stability and progress.
