Rizig says Kiir to intervene in W. Bahr el Ghazal politics

Western Bahr el Ghazal State Governor Rizig Zachariah Hassan says that he has recently returned from Juba where he briefed South Sudanese President Salva Kiir on the security and political situation in the state.

He said that he expects Kiir to intervene in the political situation in the state.

In a press statement in Wau town, Rizig admitted the situation is very complicated in the state, describing the political atmosphere as “cancerous.”

Rizig has been at odds with the Speaker of the State Assembly Andrea Mayar, who is also a member of the ruling party.

Rizig said there have been minor problems, but it soon worsened quickly like cancer.

In mid September, the Western Bahr el Ghazal legislative assembly handed a petition to President Salva Kiir against Governor Rizig Zachariah Hassan for alleged abuse of power, besides other differences within the SPLM party in the state.

“President Kiir is expected to take decisions on the current political situation in the state,” the governor stated.

The top state official further said he also briefed the president on a dilapidated Jur River Bridge. He added that they were promised by the National Ministry of Finance to fund the construction of the bridge.
