Rizig's cabinet not happy with state gazelle logo; wants new gazelle

The Western Bahr al Ghazal State cabinet has held detailed discussions on what colour and characteristics the gazelle in its logo should have, saying the current state emblem is “not well organized.” The ministers passed a resolution on the matter and referred it to parliament for approval.

The state takes its name from the Bahr al Ghazal, which means 'river of the gazelle'. Its current logo depicts a gazelle surrounded by sun beams in the midst of a white triangle and light blue circle.

State Information Minister Mary Karlino presented the Council’s resolution on the matter to parliament, saying the logo needs to be changed.

“I'm here today to present to the August House the amended logo of Western Bahr al Ghazal State. The Council of Ministers of Western Bahr al Ghazal State realized that the logo is not well organized,” she said.

“The gazelle sometimes faces different directions in the old logo and also the logo sometimes is found on the left or on the right of the heading papers of the instiuttions,” added Karlino.

According to the Council of Ministers, which is chaired by Governor Rizig Zacharia, all stationary bearing the official logo should now be changed so that the gazelle is printed on the to right side of the page and not on the left.

“Number one, the circle should be light blue. The sun beam should be composed of 12 beams. The triangle should be completely white. The gazelle should [have] two eyes, two ears and two horns, the body should be dark brown... the state logo should be on the right side of the heading and the institution logo will be on the left side of the heading.”

Parliament is given two days to come up with the amendments.
