Riziegat, Ma’alia peace meeting postponed to today in Merowe town

A final peace and reconciliation conference between the Arab nomadic tribes Rizeigat and Ma’alia of East Darfur state should begin on Tuesday in Merowe town in Sudan’s Northern State, according to a tribal leader.

The Northern State governor Ibrahim El Khidir previously announced that the meeting was scheduled to take place on Sunday, 15 February.

Mohamed Issa Aliu, Chairman of the Shura Council of the Rizeigat Arab tribe in East Darfur state, told Radio Tamazuj that the meeting has been rescheduled to today. Issa confirmed that he had arrived in Merowe town along with a delegation representing the Rizeigat tribe.

He pointed out that some Ma’alia tribesmen, government officials, and magistrates’ committee have arrived at the venue of the conference. He added that the conference aimed at discussing the feud between the two tribes of East Darfur state.
