Leaders from the Rizeigat and Dinka Malual communities have begun a post-migration conference in Aweil West County. Each year, leaders of the two communities discuss and settle grievances, who have occasional disputes over grazing and border trade.
“There are not many cases compares to last year. There were many killings last year, but this year there were not as many problems” said Guom Juer, a leader from the Dinka Malual community in an interview with Radio Tamazuj.
Mohamed Billali, a leader from the Rizeigat tribe, said the relationship between the two tribes is important. He thanked communities of Northern Bahr El Ghazal state for allowing the Rezigat to graze in their cattle areas.
VISTAS Regional Program Development Coordinator for Northern Bahr El Ghazal State Santino Bol said there has been a decrease in the number of deaths between the two sides, but an increase in the number of cattle raids.
“A lot of cattle theft has occurred because of hunger in South Sudan, and particularly Northern Bar El-Ghazal,” Bol said. “But the Rizeigat have resolved not to declare war against the culprits, but decided to bring it forward to the paramount chiefs of Dinka Malual and local authorities.”
