Maban County commissioner Temato Nau expressed concern that the Yabus stream in neighbouring Blue Nile state is rising and could submerge Bunj town in Upper Nile state.

The Yabus is a valley lined with dense forests in Sudan’s Blue Nile state that fills with water during the rainy season.

Commissioner Nau told Radio Tamazuj the roads connecting Upper Nile with Yabus town have already been cut off by floods.

He said the town is surrounded by floodwaters and citizens close to the stream have moved to higher ground.

Nau urged the national government in Juba to come up with measures to mitigate floods in the county.
