Over sixty people gathered in protest Monday in Wau town of South Sudan’s Western Bahr el Ghazal state against the disappearance of their friend from a northern part of the town.
Wau commissioner of police Maj. Gen Chol Tong said shops were closed and there is rising tension. He said the missing person worked as cutter and seller of grass in the northern areas of Wau.
Chol said in a press conference that police calmed the protesters who were carrying knives and grass-cutting tools. He said they persuaded the protesters that the disappearance is an individual incident and that the police will work to find the missing person.
Chol called on the citizens to back to their normal lives without listening to rumors.
