Bad roads caused by heavy rains have caused an increase in prices of essential commodities in Gogrial area of South Sudan’s Warrap State, a local official said.
Albino Akol, the Secretary-General of the defunct Gogrial State, told Radio Tamazuj on Thursday that citizens cannot afford the high prices of goods in the market.
“Prices are going up every day because roads connecting Gogorial area, especially Amiet road, are badly hit by rains,” he explained.
Akol said people are starving due to late rains in some parts of Gogrial.
“We don’t have floods here, instead some crops are drying up due to little rains. People are hungry and there is little we can do as a government,” he stressed.
The local official urged the government and aid agencies to intervene.
