SPLM/A-In Opposition leader Riek Machar has directed senior members of his faction to travel to South Sudan’s capital Juba in preparation for the formation of Transitional Government of National Unity (TGoNU), a senior rebel official said.
Ramadan Hassan Baku, the deputy head of the SPLM-IO advance team in Juba, told Radio Tamazuj that the armed opposition held its leadership meeting recently in Nairobi where they were instructed to go to Juba from tomorrow.
“We met as Leadership Bureau in Nairobi, he is ready and he also directed the leadership to go to Juba, so starting from tomorrow we will go to Juba,” Ramadan said.
He pointed out that Machar, who is the first vice president designate, will arrive in Juba as soon as transportation of his bodyguards is completed in the coming few days.
“As soon as 1500 or 1200 soldiers arrive in Juba, he will not wait for the arrival of all the forces, he will come to Juba. So those people should expedite the transportation of SPLA forces, it is a matter of one week he will come to Juba,” he said.
He noted that transportation of SPLA-IO forces is continuing and that about three batches have already arrived in the capital Juba. However, he called on peace partners to expedite the transportation of opposition forces to pave the way for the formation of the transitional government in South Sudan.
South Sudan government announced recently that the transitional government could be formed within the next two weeks.
