Riek Machar describes Kiir’s national dialogue as ‘bogus’

South Sudan’s former first vice president and rebel leader Riek Machar has described President Kiir’s call for a national dialogue to end the ongoing conflict as “bogus”, The Associated Press reported.

South Sudan’s former first vice president and rebel leader Riek Machar has described President Kiir’s call for a national dialogue to end the ongoing conflict as “bogus”, The Associated Press reported.

Machar told The Associated Press that there must be peace talks to end the ongoing civil war before any such national dialogue takes place in South Sudan.

The rebel leader confirmed that he cannot leave his home in South Africa without first informing South African authorities.

When asked if he is under house arrest, he referred the question to South African authorities, saying: “I am their guest, so you ask them.”

South Africa’s foreign affairs ministry recently said it was taking care of Machar and disputed reports claiming house arrest.
