Riek Machar appoints Wau governor, two deputy governors

South Sudan’s former first vice president and rebel leader Riek Machar issued decrees appointing senior opposition officials in his SPLM-IO faction to serve as state governor, deputy governors and representatives abroad.

South Sudan’s former first vice president and rebel leader Riek Machar issued decrees appointing senior opposition officials in his SPLM-IO faction to serve as state governor, deputy governors and representatives abroad.

In separate decrees on 4 January, Machar appointed Gen. Anthony Fada Taban as governor of Wau State, Francis Dongo Dange as deputy governor of Wau State and Akoi Manyiel Guong as deputy governor of Jonglei State.

The prominent opposition leader also appointed Dr. Isaac Kueth Gang as new SPLM-IO representative to the United States of America, Peter Ayul Nyidiing as SPLM-IO representative to Australia and  Rev. Jordan Manpiny Long  as new SPLM-IO representative to the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia.
