Local residents of Yei River State have alleged that government forces killed at least five civilians based their ethnicity last week.

Local residents of Yei River State have alleged that government forces killed at least five civilians based their ethnicity last week.

They told Radio Tamazuj on Monday that SPLA troops stationed in Ombasi area targeted several villages in Mongo Boma and killed a man named Francis Gaga and his son in Kisangani village on Saturday.

The same sources further said the SPLA army also killed three people in Kabengere village.

According to the sources, government troops killed a civilian in Yeiba village over the past two weeks. They also said the same forces opened fire on mourners at a funeral in the village.

The residents accused the SPLA forces of committing human rights violations against innocent people in the area.

They pointed out that the security situation has not improved in Yei River State since the outbreak of war in July 2016.

Government officials in Yei could not immediately be reached for comment.
