Local residents in Umdom area in Sudan’s Khartoum State are demanding the demolition of South Sudanese refugee camps there, claiming the camp is a breeding ground for illnesses.

Amir Al-Obeid, a local resident of Umdom, said in a statement that the refugees are spreading diseases such as cholera and hepatitis as well as destroying their social fabric by selling alcohol in their neighbourhoods.

Al-Obeid further said they have raised their concerns to the state government but no positive response so far.

He revealed that before the month of Ramadan, they had demolished some tents but they have recently been erected again.
