A representative of the SPLM-IO faction led by the First Vice President Taban Deng Gai to neighbouring Uganda has resigned, saying the 2015 peace deal needs to be resuscitated

A representative of the SPLM-IO faction led by the First Vice President Taban Deng Gai to neighbouring Uganda has resigned, saying the 2015 peace deal needs to be resuscitated.

In a statement dated 12 June, Riek Yak Guandong said he will remain dormant until a new leadership is selected to represent the faction in Uganda.

The official further said peace must be resuscitated to save the lives of innocent civilians who are affected by the ongoing civil war.  He stressed the need to have a real peace to stop the suffering of citizens in South Sudan instead of keeping what he termed a “null peace,”

Opposition sources told Radio Tamazuj that Taban’s representative was frustrated with lack of peace implementation.
