Some citizens of Damazin, capital of Sudan’s Blue Nile Sudan’s state, face worsening deprivation as the war in the state continues, according to local sources.
A number of citizens told Radio Tamazuj yesterday that living conditions continue to deteriorate, saying that some pupils have abandoned school owing to poverty.
One source stressed that more women are increasingly turning to scavenging for scrap metal in order to get income for survival.
“People are really suffering here. Women are digging in the ground in search for remnants of metals that they sell at 3 kg for 4 pounds in order to buy bread to sustain one meal per day.”
“Even students are selling their school uniforms in order to get something to eat,” said one citizen.
