Renk County in South Sudan’s Upper Nile state is experiencing an acute shortage of fuel resulting in rising prices of other essential goods at the market.
Several taxi drivers told Radio Tamazuj on Tuesday that they were experiencing acute shortages of fuel especially gasoline.
Meanwhile citizens report high costs incurred during transportation in the area.
Renk County’s Executive Director Ahmed Akuei confirmed that there are fuel shortages in the county since the last four days, describing the crisis as “normal.”
“We often get fuel from Sudan through smuggling. So because of heavy rains those corridors used by smugglers have been cut off,” he said.
The official attributed the problem to heavy rainfall that cut off the smuggling routes connecting the county with Sudan as well as neighboring counties.
