Local authorities in Renk County intend to form a disaster response committee to mitigate the effects of flooding.
The committee will aim to provide shelter and food to affected citizens and open up streams at various residential areas to divert floodwaters.
Renk County’s Executive Director Ahmed Akuei Ajak told Radio Tamazuj Tuesday that residents of Renk are in dire conditions owing to heavy rains and flooding last week.
The official said that about six residential areas have been swept away by flooding.
“We cannot rule out that there will be an environmental disaster because of flohttps://radiotamazuj.org/en/node/add/articleoding in the area,” he said.
Ahmed urged humanitarian organizations to provide shelter and humanitarian assistance to the flood stricken people.
The committee is expected to involve members of civil society organizations and local humanitarian organizations, according to the director.
