Renk county launches anti-rabies vaccination for donkeys and dogs

Authorities in Renk County of South Sudan’s Upper Nile State and the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation, FAO have launched an anti-rabies vaccination campaign for donkeys and stray dogs.

Renk County's head of the Livestock Department Jadallah Deng Ding told Radio Tamazuj that the campaign targets about 250 donkeys and 150 dogs.

Deng urged the owners of the animals to visit the vaccination centers to collect the doses.

For his part, Dr. Jada Wani, a representative of FAO in Renk said the campaign is within the organizations' mandate to reduce diseases and cases of animal bites. 

Dr. Wani explained that the campaign will last for five days in four centers within the county, noting that about 60,000 people are exposed to rabies annually across the world, most of them in Africa.

The Executive Director of Renk County Anyang Agou expressed his appreciation to FAO for its efforts to protect livestock and said the government will support all organizations working for development in the region.
