Religious leaders urge UNMISS to establish community support base in Pochalla

A group of Church leaders from South Sudan’s Boma State have appealed to the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) to establish a community support base in Pochalla County.

In a letter signed by five Christian leaders from Presbyterian Church, the group stated that the existence of the world body in the area will encourage national and international NGOs to establish their bases in the area to deliver services to the needy people.

The Church leaders pointed out that the UN base will also reduce incidents of child abductions. “The cases of child abductions and killing of innocent civilians in the area is expected to decline when the UN and other organizations have bases in the area,” the religious leaders wrote in their letter dated 12 June.

According to the Church leaders, the community support base will also make businesses flourish in the area as local traders from neighboring Ethiopia will be able to bring their goods to the county, adding that the base will also support peace and reconciliation in the area.
