Nearly 4,000 people who fled their houses following a “house to house” massacre by government forces at Kalipapa village in Kwerijik Bungu Payam are expected to be relocated to Juba, a religious leader said.

In October, SPLA troops attacked Kalipapa village located about 38 miles west of the capital Juba after a failed military operation against rebels who had abducted passengers along the Yei-Juba road.

Frazer Yugu, Assistant Bishop of the Episcopal Church, told Radio Tamazuj yesterday that church leaders and members of the native administration from Kwerijik Bungu area met and agreed to transport the conflict-affected people to the capital Juba.

 “We are trying to bring those people to Juba because there is insecurity in the area,” said Yugu. “We met in Juba here on Sunday and discussed the possibility of looking for the budget for their transportation,” he added.

Yugu noted that most of those villagers are women, children and elderly and that they are currently living in dire humanitarian conditions due to shortages of food and medicines.
