A religious leader in Bor town of South Sudan’s Jonglei state is pleading for peace as peace talks continue in Khartoum.

Ibrahim Geu, the Secretary-General for Islamic Council in Jonglei, told Radio Tamazuj on Saturday said the ongoing civil war has destroyed the social fabric and trust among the South Sudanese communities.

“People are suffering in South Sudan. Our politicians must put their political interests aside and put South Sudan before them. We are also praying that God bring peace,” he said.

The clergyman is also pleading with the South Sudanese to embrace peaceful coexistence, saying cultural diversity is a gift from God.

Geu pointed out that the Jonglei’s Islamic council is planning to build a secondary school and a learning center for orphans as a sign of peace, solidarity and promotion of social interaction among the locals.
