A senior relief official in Fashoda state on Monday announced the resumption of river transport in the state ending a four-year halt decided by the relevant authorities over security concerns.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj yesterday, Fashoda’s Humanitarian Aid Commissioner, Muzamil Ujuok Ajak said the river transport at resumed last week in Renk, Melut, Kaka and Malakal due to improved security situation.
“For the past four years it was not possible because of the presence of rebel forces on the western side. But now our government forces have made it possible and we have resumed,” Ajak said.
The humanitarian official revealed that four trips have successfully transported humanitarian aid to Fashoda.
