A consignment of medical supplies including some 195 cartons of kidney dialysis medications has finally arrived in Nyala, the capital of South Darfur State, local authorities confirmed.
Speaking during a ceremony to receive the batch, Acting Governor Salah al-Din Ahmed Al-Mawg expressed gratitude to the donor countries for delivering the medical equipment to the kidney dialysis center at Nyala Specialized Hospital.
He said the center not only serves citizens of South Darfur State but also those from the other five states of the Darfur region.
The governor assured residents that the medications will soon be distributed to other government hospitals.
“This effort is considered valuable and was accomplished through the collective efforts of various entities targeting humanitarian work to treat kidney patients,” he said.
Al-Mawg also highlighted the difficulty of the task, especially considering that the vehicle transporting the medication traveled from Port Sudan to Darfur for about two weeks.
Meanwhile, the Director of the Kidney Dialysis Center at the Nyala Specialized Hospital, Engineer Hamid Musa, revealed that the center recently halted in-patient services due to the depletion of kidney dialysis medical supplies.
“We have now received a quantity of kidney dialysis supplies from the National Center in Port Sudan which is sufficient for three months,” he stated.
Eng Hamid promised the resumption of the crucial dialysis services at the center in the next few days for all patients in the region.
“The center has 18 dialysis machines, two of which are currently out of service, leaving 16 machines operational at the center,” he said. “This center is the largest of its kind in the states of Darfur.”
Two weeks ago, employees at the Kidney Dialysis Center in Nyala protested the halting of its operations and demanded the provision of kidney dialysis medical supplies, fuel for operating the generator, and incentives for the staff.
