The United Nations Office for Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA) in Wau town has called for unhindered humanitarian access to the conflict-affected people in the state.
Speaking during a meeting at the General Secretariat in Wau town on Tuesday, Stephen O’Brien, the Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief of the United Nations who is visiting Wau town these days, called on the relevant authorities to facilitate movements of humanitarian organizations in order to deliver aid assistance to the needy people.
He pointed to measures taken by some government soldiers in an attempt to block the humanitarian organizations from accessing those in need following the recent violent events in Wau town.
O’Brien reiterated their commitment to continue providing relief to the conflict-affected people in the bush and around Wau town.
For his part, Andrea Mayar Acho, Wau state governor, promised to remove all hurdles hindering the delivery of humanitarian assistance to the needy people in the state.
