Regional Forces officer arrested after killing national security colleague in Yambio

A member of the East Africa Regional Forces from the South Sudan People’s Defense Force (SSPDF) has been arrested for killing a national security officer in Yambio town.

Western Equatoria State Police Commissioner Maj Gen Phillip Madut Tong told Radio Tamazuj on Sunday that the incident happened after the regional officer was instructed to report to the barracks but defied, leading to an altercation with the deceased.

Tong said the security situation had returned to normal and the residents were going about their business after they realized it was an isolated incident and the suspect had already been arrested.

The Police Commissioner said the suspect was been taken to the Military Detention Facility in his Unit.

A week earlier, series of gunshot sounds were heard in Yambio where two soldiers died and two civilians were wounded. It had also been reported that there was a disarmament going on in Yambio Town.
