A number of Sudanese refugees in South Sudan’s Yida refugee camp have urged the authorities to provide them with more non-food humanitarian aid.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj during the aid distribution, most refugees claimed to be in need of other types of assistance such as blankets and other household items.
“It is very important. We want them to provide us with sugar and also a grain mill because the presence of these things is very important. Also sugar and coffee,” claimed one refugee.
However, clashes on Saturday between a militia reported by local sources as the Justice and Equality Movement (JEM) and the South Sudan police force (SSPS) who are responsible for protecting the camp north-east of the camp. The outbreak of fighting triggered panic and caused a number of refugees to flee and gather in front of the UNHCR building.
