Refugees at White Nile border lack shelter

Hundreds of South Sudanese refugees at Joda checkpoint at the border with Sudan’s White Nile state still report acute shortages of food and plastic sheets.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Monday, several South Sudanese nationals expressed discontent about the deteriorating humanitarian situation. Most of them have come from Upper Nile state, which has been experiencing violent conflict.

Households said they are experiencing food shortages and lack of tarpaulins as well as tents amid cold weather in the area.

A refugee at the camp said the World Food Programme (WFP) and an aid organization have recently distributed food rations to about 8,000 South Sudanese refugees last week.

However, he said the food being given by the humanitarians is inadequate. The conflict-affected people called for an increase of food rations, besides shelter as soon as possible.
