Refugee killed, 11 injured in Jandrassa Camp fighting

Jandrassa Camp for Blue Nile refugees in Upper Nile on Monday witnessed the region's first major reported between locals and refugees on Monday which resulted in the death of a refugee and the wounding of 11 others, including five who were transferred to a health center in Maban for treatment.

The commissioner of Maban County John Juma said that the conflict erupted following a dispute between two people and evolved into a clash where refugees and residents used sticks and boomerangs which resulted in the death of 50-year-old Kondi Doka from Jandrassa Camp, which is located near Yusif Batil camp. The commissioner said that among the 11 wounded, five were transferred immediately to a health center in Maban for treatment and one of them remains in critical condition.

In addition to that, Juma asserted that the situation is now under control after sitting down with head figures from the sides of the refugees and he locals, stating that there is no difference in his county between refugees and residents. He stated that the conflict was the behavior of an individual, stressing on return of relations to normal between the province's population and the refugees who share their lives as they have done prior to the conflict.
