Hundreds of South Sudanese children and youth are out of school at refugee camps in Sudan’s White Nile state due to troubling humanitarian conditions, according parents.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Monday, several refugees at El Radis, Juri and El Kashafa camps said hundreds of children dropped out of schools and that some of them have travelled with their parents to other Sudanese states.
They attributed the problem to the different syllabus in Sudan and the poor humanitarian situation at the camps. They also appealed to the relevant authorities and humanitarian organizations to take care of their children’s future.
Meanwhile, in a press statement yesterday, Sudan’s humanitarian aid commissioner in White Nile State Salahuddin El Said announced that the number of South Sudanese at El Salam camp reached 30,000 people.
He further explained that the refugees were distributed to three areas under direct supervision of the commission in collaboration with local residents.
For his part, El Salam Locality Commissioner called for the provision of humanitarian aid to the refugees who are mostly women and children.
“South Sudanese refugees are being treated like Sudanese nationals. So they are now carrying out their daily routines without any problem,” he was quoted as saying.
