Reform Now Party to boycott National Dialogue

Sudan’s opposition Reform Now Party (RNP) reiterated its position to boycott the National Dialogue initiative due to take place in October this year.

The RNP broke away from the ruling National Congress Party in the past two years under leadership of Ghazi Salah al-Deen al-Attabani, the former head of the Sudanese ruling party parliamentary caucus.

Hassan Rizig, deputy head of the party, confirmed to Radio Tamazuj they will boycott the national dialogue. He described the recent African Union resolution 539 which called on the Khartoum government to adhere to a democratic transformation as “binding” before such a Dialogue.

The opposition leader pointed out that they met with the Sudan Revolutionary Front (SRF) in Addis Ababa earlier this week. He added they agreed to recommit themselves to a previous agreement signed by Ghazi Salah al-Deen on the 7+7 committee side with the Paris Declaration Force.

The RNP leader explained that the resolution of the AU Peace and Security Council (AUPSC) will be referred to the UN Security Council if ignored by the government.

The referral of the resolution to the UN Security Council may affect Sudan negatively, according to Rizig.
