Over 80,000 displaced people from South Sudan’s Jonglei state who sought refuge in Minkaman camp in Lakes face poor humanitarian conditions.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj yesterday, the head of South Sudan Red Cross Society in Jonglei Daivd Gai said the displaced families lack food and shelter.
He said there have been increasing diseases such as malaria and other infectious diseases at the camp amid shortages of doctors and health facilities.
Gai sad food rations are inadequate, but described the situation as stable compared to last months with some positive gains.
“Hygiene and sanitation have relatively improved in the camp,” he said, adding that the SSRCC and partners built about 300 toilets at the camp.
Separately, Duk County Commissioner Elijah Manylom said over 2,000 IDPs from Ayod County crossed to Duk County a few days ago.
Commissioner told Radio Tamazuj that humanitarian organizations are assessing the new arrivals before giving them food.
