The South Sudan Red Cross branch in Bentiu town on Monday donated 19 cartons of Oral Rehydration Salts (ORS) to the Rubkona County health facility in Unity State as a gesture to commemorate World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day.
8 May is a global day to celebrate the uniqueness and unity of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement.
Ruai Bang Teny, the head of the South Sudan Red Cross office in Bentiu, said that the purpose of the donation is to help save the lives of people suffering from diarrhea due to drinking unsafe water.
“Our purpose of donating the ORS is to save the lives of the most vulnerable people suffering from acute diarrhea,” Bang told Radio Tamazuj at the Rubkona County health facility on Monday. “We are supporting the community and will continue supporting them because it is our mandate.”
Meanwhile, Jal Kuol Malow, the Rubkona County health director, confirmed they received the ORS donation at the right time to help support vulnerable children suffering from diarrhea.
“As the county health director, I appreciate the South Sudan Red Cross for the Oral Rehydration Salts donation because it will help vulnerable children who are already admitted at the health facility,” he said.
Last year, South Sudan Red Cross donated soap, mosquito nets, and blankets to the prison inmates in Bentiu.
