The Sudan People’s Liberation Army (Juba faction) says that troops of the opposing SPLA-IO faction have attacked Imtidad market northeast of Renk town in Upper Nile State.
Col. Philip Aguer said the rebel troops attacked the market on Monday morning. Speaking to the UN radio service, he said that their own forces had withdrawn from the market, which is located between Halka and Joda, north of Renk.
“The platoon that was securing the market pulled out after the attack on the headquarters of the battalion in Halka. SPLA leadership in Renk area are trying to restore security. What is known is that the target of this attack is looting the property of traders because it was on the market and not a military zone,” he said.
