The Sudan People’s Liberation Army in Opposition maintained that the government has continued to violate a ceasefire order that went into effect last week.

On Sunday evening, the SPLA-IO issued a statement accusing the government of attacking its bases in Upper Nile state with helicopter gunships. The statement from SPLA-IO spokesperson Col. William Gatjiath Deng accused the fighters of targeting both security forces and civilians.

“It’s not our interest to go back to war after the signing of this permanent ceasefire, but Juba government is forcing us to unpopular kind of retaliation that may come soon if the government still continues belligerent on our bases,” Gatjiath wrote.
