Rebecca Nyandeng de Mabior, the widow of SPLM founder John Garang, has criticized President Salva Kiir’s leadership style, saying the country’s leader doesn’t care about his suffering people.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Thursday‚ Nyandeng said South Sudanese President’s recent speech in the capital Juba was irresponsible.
Kiir said recently that what will be his personal incentive if there is a peace agreement without him in power.
“Kiir cares about his parameters only at J1 and it shows lack of responsibility,” Nyandeng said.
Nyandeng also lashed out at President Kiir for saying that he regretted for saving the lives of his opponents after the outbreak of civil war in 2013 and 2016.
“I am not happy about what Kiir said. I am sorry because we have such a president in South Sudan. I am sorry,” she said.
Separately, she called on the South Sudan parties to recognize the value that women bring collectively to the nation, calling for the importance of women’s representation at the peace talks in Addis Ababa.
Nyandeng, a government critic who also maintains that she is the “mother of all” said South Sudan’s leaders especially President Kiir failed to fund projects to develop rural women.
The South Sudanese politician urged the people to unite their ranks for the sake of the country. “Leaders will come and go, so the people of South Sudan should not allow themselves to be divided along ethnic lines by leaders,” she said.
“Any leader calling for South Sudan to exist as tribes must be removed,” she added.
