Rebecca Nyandeng de Mabior, the widow of SPLM founder John Garang says she fully supports the peace process, despite her absence at the celebrations in Juba today.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Wednesday, Nyandeng said, “I don’t want our people to think that I am one of those people who do not want peace.”
“I want to tell our people, that I am with the leaders. I could not travel because of a health problem but I am with them hundred percent. If my people say they want peace, who am I to say that I don’t want peace,” she said.
Nyandeng added that the people of South Sudan and the region are tired of the conflict and urged President Salva Kiir and opposition leaders to work together to implement the peace deal.
“So this peace is important that we go in and implement it, we don’t want things that will take us back,” she appealed.
She further apologized to the people of South Sudan saying they are the cause of all the turmoil in the country.
“All of us are sorry for the problems and conflict that we have faced and we open a new phase. The people of South Sudan are good people who have no problems with any people. We are the ones bringing them the problems, we the leaders.”
