Rashad, South Kordofan: militias and absence of aid

The residents and displaced people from Rashad County in South Kordofan are living in harsh conditions without assistance and cut off from Sudan's normal economy because of the war. They say there is also a complete absence of humanitarian organizations due to the presence of militias in the region.

A number of displaced people and residents from Rashad County spoke to Radio Tamazuj complaining of poor conditions and stating that life was not like the way it was in the past because of the war in different parts of South Kordofan which forced thousands to flee villages of Rashad County including Um Burumbita, Khordeleb, Jabal Tuma, Al Mansura, Abu Hassan, and Ardibaya.

They also stressed that there was horrible deterioration in basic services available to the residents and displaced people because of insecurity.

Joshua Ismail, one of the residents of Rashad County spoke to Radio Tamazuj explaining the local conditions. He described a continuous decline in the security because of the government militiamen along with the lack of basic services of health, education and other necessities of life.

Ismail, who left the Rashad area more than a week ago, dismissed statements carried on government broadcasts that claimed the situation there is calm and there is improvement in the living conditions.
