Rapes and robbery in Sudan’s West Kordofan

A 10-year-old girl has reportedly been raped in the area of El Tabon, Babanusa locality, in West Kordofan. The perpetrator has been arrested and is at present detained in Babanusa prison, pending investigation.

The police has also arrested two suspects for the rape of two women in Babanusa last week.. The two university students were reportedly raped by five unidentified gunmen.

In another incident in Babanusa, a double-cabin vehicle belonging to the National Electricity Cooperation reportedly has been robbed. “Unidentified gunmen intercepted the car and intimidated the driver to get off the car, after which they drove the car to an unknown destination,” Mohamed Yusuf, an eye witness confirmed.

The authorities have not been able to locate and return the stolen car.

A source told Radio Tamazuj that citizens in West Kordofan are complaining about rampant insecurity within the state. They attribute the deteriorating security situation to what they term a “constitutional vacuum”, due to the shortage of police forces.
