Over 150 households in South Sudan’s Eastern Lakes State have fled their houses near the border with neighbouring Western Lakes State due to rampant insecurity, a local official said.
Aluakluak County Commissioner Majak Kuot told Radio Tamazuj yesterday that those families left their homes and farms due to deteriorating security conditions and recurrent attacks by criminals.
He pointed out that the conflict-displaced people are currently living under trees amid harsh humanitarian conditions in Aluakluak County.
“The residents have fled their homes due to attacks by criminals on the area, so they are now living under trees in harsh conditions,” said Kuot.
The local official pointed out that the displaced families left their crops to rot in agricultural fields, saying the affected families rely on eating leaves to stay alive.
Kuot revealed that the state government will hold peace conferences with neighbouring counties in a bid to stabilize the area so local residents can return to their houses.
