Ram captured for murder in Lakes State, police say

The police in South Sudan’s Lakes State said a ram is in detention after it allegedly knocked an elderly woman to death in Rumbek East County over the weekend.

The police in South Sudan’s Lakes State said a ram is in detention after it allegedly knocked an elderly woman to death in Rumbek East County over the weekend.

“The ram knocked a woman when she was about to get up from sleep twice. It knocked her down first and then the second time it hit her under her ribs, breaking her ribs. She was rushed to hospital but died,” Maj. Elijah Mabor Makuac, the state police spokesperson told Radio Tamazuj.

“The ram is caught by the security forces and is detained in Rumbek East County,” he added.

He urged the relatives of the deceased to remain patient and let the law take its course.

The Executive Chief of Maleng-agok Payam in Rumbek East County where the incident took place, Majak Deng Mabok, identified the deceased as 70-year-old Adhieu Aciping.

Deng said the incident is tragic as the woman was still mourning her husband’s death two weeks ago.

He said the ram will be in detention until its owner is arrested.

“This case is that of a domestic animal that killed a person, and it needs patience from the family of the deceased because since the incident occurred, no one has claimed ownership of the ram. So, it will be police custody until the owner shows up,” he added.

In a separate incident, the police said one person was killed and three others were wounded in Cuiebet County clashes.

Maj. Mabor said the clashes erupted in Pagoor Payam after a man who had impregnated a girl earlier, was caught and beaten. In his defense, his family arrived leading to the deadly clashes.

“A man who had impregnated a girl a long time ago was found and beaten by the girl’s relatives in Pagoor payam. This resulted in clashes on both sides using wooden traditional sticks to fight. But one of the people fighting shot at people killing one and injuring three others,” the police official explained.

He pointed out that the police have launched a manhunt for the man who was the suspected murderer but because of the remoteness of the area, it is an uphill task.
