Rajaf youths confront SPLA-Juba soldiers

A group of Rajaf Payam youths armed with traditional weapons on Tuesday evening confronted soldiers of the SPLA-Juba faction, the armed group controlling nearby Juba city. The confrontation sparked a fight in which once person was wounded.

Rajaf Payam located upstream from Juba is part of Central Equatoria State, where the civil war in South Sudan began in December 2013.

The youths on Tuesday evening confronted a “committee” of soldiers whom they accused of illegally selling off community land in the area. Armed with bows, arrows and machetes, they clashed with the SPLA-Juba faction soldiers resulting in the wounding of one youth.

According to the state police commissioner Maj. General Henry Danima, police rushed to the scene and disarmed and arrested a SPLA captain. The police chief noted that a case has been opened against him for attempted murder and trespassing.
