Political parties in Raja County, Western Bahr el Ghazal State, said they have united in their commitment to coexist for the sake of stability and development in the county.
This emerged during a two-day political forum organized by the Civil Affairs division of the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) with the aim of fostering political dialogue among the parties.
The forum, which took place in Sopo Payam of Raja County, concluded on Tuesday.
Representatives from various political parties in Raja County, including SPLM, SPLM-IO, and SSOA, came together to discuss matters of coexistence, peace, and stability in the county.
Harun Bedi, a member of the South Sudan Opposition Alliance (SSOA), described the two-day forum as highly significant, as it provided a platform for different political parties to work together harmoniously.
Bedi stated, “The two days we spent were very productive, as they served to unite political parties from all sides. From today onwards, friendly visits will be conducted among all the parties to so that they work together.”
“I am immensely grateful to the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS). I earnestly request them to continue working for the betterment of civil society,” he added.
Meanwhile, Hussein Ibrahim from the SPLM expressed appreciation for the workshop, which provided valuable insights into the functioning of different political parties without conflicts. Ibrahim stated, “The workshop focused on crucial matters, allowing political parties such as SPLM, IO, and SSOA to bring peace to Raja County by the grace of the Almighty.”
In a similar vein, Mohamed Ahmed, a representative from the SPLM-IO, emphasized their political party’s vision to collaborate with other sectors and political parties, ensuring lasting peace and stability in Raja County.
Commissioner Adison Arkangelo Musa of Raja County called for collective efforts to foster stability and deliver essential services to the citizens in the county.
For his part, Justin Atit, a Civil Affairs officer at UNMISS in Wau, emphasized the importance of unity among political parties in Raja County to promote peaceful coexistence among citizens.
The county is primarily governed by the SPLM-IO in accordance with power-sharing agreement signed in September 2018.
