Humanitarian partners have inaugurated a humanitarian hub in Raja County of Western Bahr el Ghazal State.
A Humanitarian Hub is a space for aid workers, humanitarian agencies and institutions, and international and national organizations to converge and work towards greater resilience in a particular area.
The hub comprises offices, internet services and accommodation.
The facility constructed by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) will assist humanitarian partners in Raja County in addressing the needs of the returnees on the ground.
Riad Marrow, the Head of IOM in Wau, said the humanitarian partners in the area have been facing challenges in helping returnees there due to poor infrastructure.
He says the new facility will now ease the burden on travels from the state capital Wau to the areas in need of support.
“As now we have a base, I believe this centre will support all the partners to have a rapid response to all needs here in Raja,” Mr. Riad Marrow said.
Sam Muhumure, the Head of the UN Mission Field office in Wau, reiterated the commitment of humanitarian partners toward providing services to the citizens.
He also called on authorities to improve the Wau-Raja road’s condition to ease humanitarian access to the area.
“IOM has come but I am sure if IOM goes tomorrow, there are these hard wall building, there will be a number of other activities that can be done in this place and I think it is a lesson to us that where we go, we should be able to leave some footprints,” Muhumure stated.
He also urged those returning to their areas to embark on agriculture.
For his part, the Commissioner of Raja County Mr Edison Arkanjelo Musa pledged to provide security to all the humanitarian partners operating in the area.
“I want to ensure all the UN agencies that the county authority will provide security and any necessary support to all humanitarian agencies,” he said.
