More than 300 houses were flooded in Aweil after heavy rains hit the town for more than 10 hours on Monday.
The affected areas affected include Naivasha, Makuac Awiet, New Site, Deng Nhial and some parts of Malou Awer. The heavy rains caused displacement of citizens from their houses and also created conditions for more malaria cases in the state capital.
In an interview with Radio Tamazuj, the state Minister of Water and Rural Development Bona Makuac Mawien said that 313 households are affected. He said the state formed an emergency disaster team to assess the impact on the affected people and respond to the crisis.
He said the state government will first decide where to allocate the affected people before any other action is taken. Makuac added that he requested NGOs concerned to provide them with mosquito nets, blankets and food for some months since their crops are also affected.
